Andy Gilmore
Thank you to Matt Longstaff for sending me a link to the American graphic artist, Andy Gilmore.
A self proclaimed a draftsman, designer and musician; his work is inspired by the physics of acoustics and sound. The rhythmical use of geometric blocks draws on connotations of retro pixel art yet the overall effect remains fluid and futuristic, a sort of American Quilt on acid.
Gilmore’s use of single and multiple polygons to create both regular and irregular tessellation have been described by some as hypnotic. Bold colours and shapes are repeated and and mirrored to create beautiful mosaic-like repeating patterns and multiple symmetry. It draws you in… a bit like a kaleidoscope.
With Gilmore’s work already commissioned by The New York Times, Wired and Wallpaper* magazine it would seem that the demand for tessellation-chic is high.
